Course Description

This 1-day workshop aims to introduce organisations and project leaders to Creative Thinking, Innovation and Business Model Development.

Participants will be introduced to a number of tools like mapping ideas, environmental stimuli, business models, project management and benchmarking.

We will look at a three-stage work-flow taking us from idea generation through to validation and testing.

Training Structure

By using a number of creative thinking techniques we will give practical examples of how ideas move from conception to reality.

Idea generation– divergent and convergent thinking

  • Identifying new ideas and their critical validation.
  • Developing a specific set of criteria to test ideas based on the desired outcomes.

Idea validation – how the ideas fit the specified criteria.

  • Setting measurement techniques depending on the stated outcomes and accepted tolerances to identify success or failure.
  • Further investigation of testing methodologies.

Testing the idea – determining the viability of the ideas.

  • Learning how to test ideas quickly through small, fast experiments using prescribed data-sets on addressing the problem / solution fit, scale, market and cost.
  • Learning how to adapt or modify ideas.

Through practical exercises, and workshops in different environmental situations participants will experience how factors that can and cannot be controlled affect the idea generation, validation and testing phases.

Methodology

The programme encompasses a wide range of engaging and practical tools including Role-playing, Assessment techniques, Inspirations, Case Studies, Empowerment, Team Building, Evaluation and Feedback Methodologies.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn the processes involved in bringing an idea through to application.  They will look at idea generation and be introduced to three ideation techniques that aid creative thinking.  They will define Idea validation and testing using sets of metrics to examine the feasibility of their ideas. Perform research on chosen ideas and test ideas in a real-world environment. They will also see how environmental stimuli affect the ideation process and how, where possible, ideation should take place in-context of where the solution will be used.

Participants will also understand the concept of leading yourself, leading others and leading tasks. Participants will learn what are the enabling conditions that lead to effective team development and collaboration.
